About this page

What is this page offering? Free preview of video ad research done by Connecty, comparing ads from key players in selected DTC categories. It covers each brand's top ~3 public ads.

Why video only? AI has made text and images abundant. Video still earns trust and attention because it shows proof and entertains. 85% of consumers say a video convinced them to buy a product or service (Wyzowl, Video Marketing Statistics 2026).

What is the data behind it? Based on public Meta Ad Library data, top ad impressions and industry benchmark viewer retention data. It shows what brands run, not their spend or sales.

Aish's dog: at home, close up, and next to a newborn babyWhy I made this

I've been a fresh dog food customer for years.

When I moved to the US, I wanted the best fresh food for my dog's health. I came across all 7 of these brands as a buyer, ads included. I wanted to understand why each brand's ads felt different, and what their creative choices could teach marketers. So I ran their ads through Connecty.

Results on the dog

The Farmer's Dog

The one thing it sells
Visible results. The only brand in this sample that shows the change on the dog: "Ruby lost 10 lbs!" "George lost 30 lbs!" Food that looks homemade.
How the ads tell it
Silent music-and-text edits. The dog is the hero: no creator, no vet. A before and after, a tea-party vignette, a pour into a glass bowl.

Open on one before-and-after result in the first 3 s. No hook scored strong today. Measure: 3-second view rate.

Convenience you can see: pre-portioned packs, a scoop and storage tub, "zero mess." Then care after the box: an app that tracks your dog's weight.
How the ads tell it
Creator testimonials aimed at one persona (busy dog moms), and street taste tests: "that one's the favorite."

Food as family love

Freshpet

Quick Truxton update... He's not a picky eater anymore!Open this ad in Connecty →
The one thing it sells
Real meat and veggies, ready to serve from the store fridge. The promise is emotional: "better food for your better half."
How the ads tell it
Entertainment first: a football broadcast with a corgi running back, a voice-note update, a family growing up. The fastest edits in the set.
Test next
Send fridge-recipe ads to a page for that recipe, not the delivery plan. Measure: landing page conversion rate.

JustFoodForDogs

Would you eat Peluche's food?Open this ad in Connecty →
The one thing it sells
Transparency: open kitchens, ingredients you can see, "#1 vet-recommended," and pantry-fresh meals that skip the fridge.
How the ads tell it
Proof by looking: a street interview asking "would you eat your dog's food?", a chef skit, a celebrity's morning routine.

Show the open kitchen and the brand in the first 5 s. 2 of 3 ads show the brand late or never. Measure: CTR.

The one thing it sells
UnKibble: whole-food nutrition in a kibble-style bag. No thawing, no fridge, 40% less than fresh-frozen.

Fresh dog food: ideas to fix and test first

Check first Automated findings. Confirm before acting.
  1. Conversion risk

Land each ad on the product and offer it shows

Connecty's automated checks found the page shows a different product than the video on 6 of 21 ads (3 brands), and a different offer on 5 (3 brands). One JustFoodForDogs ad promised 60% off with a code; the page showed 50% off for subscriptions.

Then test Creative hypotheses from this 21-ad sample.
  1. Creative test

Test a visible result as proof

16 of 21 ads carry proof, mostly vet claims. Only The Farmer's Dog uses a before and after in this sample. Test it against your current proof. Measure: CTR and conversion rate.

3 creative concepts to brief on Monday

Answer the cost per day

Best fit: The Farmer's Dog, Ollie, JustFoodForDogs

Fresh food for a 30 lb dog: $X a day.

Put the daily cost for a stated dog size on screen in the first 3 s, with the assumptions in small text. The challengers sell on price. The leaders do not answer it in any ad reviewed. Measure: landing page conversion rate.

The result, in 3 seconds

Best fit: any brand with documented customer results

Same dog, 8 weeks apart.

Open on a real, documented before and after, used with permission and labeled as one dog's result. Only 1 of 7 brands uses this in the sample. Test it against the current opening, with the rest of the ad unchanged. Measure: 3-second view rate and CTR.

Lead with the health app

Best fit: Ollie

Snap a photo of your dog. Ollie's health team replies within 24 hours.

Ollie is the only brand in the sample that shows care after the box, and it appears late (26 s). Open on the photo check-in instead, using only features Ollie's ads already show. Measure: conversion rate and 60-day retention.

Method: Connecty reviewed 21 public Meta video ads from 7 US fresh dog food brands (about 3 per brand) and their landing pages. An illustrative sample, not the whole category. Observed from frame-level signals. Scored: 12 creative dimensions, each with a stated reason. Retention uses industry benchmarks, not brand data. Not measured: spend, sales or ROAS. Landing page checks are automated.
